How Our Crime Stoppers Works
May 19, 2012

You can submit a tip on ANY felony case or wanted felony fugitive via the tip line at (903) 577-TIPS (8477). This phone line is answered by a professional answering service that specializes in taking Crime Stoppers tips. Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers chose to use an answering as an added protection to our tipsters that they will remain completely anonymous. With no caller ID and being answered by an answering service outside our area of the state, we can guarantee anonymity of our tipsters. The other added benefit is the Answering Service is manned by call takers that are bilingual and can assist with taking calls in several different foreign languages.

In April we added the ability to send Web Tips. All the users has to do is go to www.netacrimestoppers.org and then click "SUBMIT A WEB TIP" on the left side of the screen. Fill in the information in the blanks with as much information as you can provide, create a password and then click Submit. Once the tip is submitted it is passed on to an investigator for review and follow-up. The tipster is encouraged to go back to the website regularly and by clicking "Web Tip Follow-Up", they can then log back in and check status of the information or whether the investigator has a question for the tipster to try and obtain more information. Once again, all of this is done on a secure server where the identity of the tipster is protected.

We also implemented the Text a Tip to our arsenal of high-tech gadgets. The caller can text NTX plus their tip information to 274637 (spells CRIMES) and it is automatically forwarded to the Crime Stopper Coordinator so it can be sent to the proper investigator. The advantages of the Text a Tip is that the Coordinator can text back and forth with the tipster to try and gain more information about the crime, suspects, etc.

The Text a Tip is going to be especially useful in the school systems in Franklin, Morris and Titus Counties. Most of the students in Junior and High School have cell phones and studies show they are more likely to anonymously text a tip in reporting a crime than to tell a teacher or call a hotline.

The school systems are a unique place for Crime Stoppers to operate. Crime Stoppers will pay CASH REWARD for information on ANY crime occurring at the school as well as School Policy violations like bullying, skipping school, tobacco possession, etc.

Once the tip has been submitted via the hotline, web tip form or by text, the investigator is given the information to review and follow-up on. If the information provided leads to an arrest, the Board of Directors will vote on a tip amount suitable for crime. A guideline is used based on type of crime, serious nature of crime, number of suspects arrested and several other criteria to assist with coming up with total tip amount. Remember, the more serious the crime, stolen property/narcotics seized and number of arrests, THE LARGER THE REWARD! Once approved, cash is left at a local bank drive through and the tipster is given a unique identifying number to use to pick up the money.

We encourage all people that have submitted a tip via any of the three methods to either call back, log back into the Web Form or submit a follow-up text often to check status or provide further information that could assist the investigation.

Remember, we not only pay out rewards for the Crimes of the Week or the Wanted Fugitives featured on our site or in the local media. We pay out rewards on ANY FELONY CRIME OR WANTED FELON! Please check back often to our website and Facebook Page for new information, updates and news from our organization.

If you have any questions, there is an Ask Me section on our blog page at http://netacs.tumblr.com/ask where you can go and ask questions about the program. Please DO NOT use that page to give a tip as it is not secure.

Crime Stoppers Expands to Morris County
May 16, 2012

In May, the Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers met with officials from Morris County and gave a presentation on our program and how we can help them.

In the coming days, news articles will be in the local Morris County papers announcing the partnership of Morris County Law Enforcement with the Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers.

This program will allow the citizens of Morris County to contact our hotline at (903) 577-TIPS, submit Web Tips on this site and send Tip by Text by sending NTX plus tip to 274637 (CRIMES).

Paul Pewitt CISD is onboard as well and we will be expanding our School Program into their school by the start of the 2012/2013 school year.

The City of Daingerfield has a Crime Stoppers organization already set up and established. We are going to team up with their Crime Stoppers to offer them the assistance of our technology as well as having their phone transferred to our outside Tip Hotline Answering Service to allow for 24/7 coverage of tips to their Crime Stoppers number. We are also going to try and team up with the Daingerfield ISD in order to get a School Program back up and running in their school system.

The Crime Stoppers organization is excited about the new partnerships and is looking forward to working with the law enforcement and community of Morris County.

Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers Enters 21st Century
April 22, 2012

We are pleased to announce the addition of several new pieces of technology that will assist the citizens of Titus and Franklin Counties with reporting their Crime Stoppers tips.

First is this website.  This website allows us to offer the community up-to-date information on Crimes of the Week, Wanted Fugitives and Crime Prevention Tips, as well as updated information about community activities.

Tipsters are able to quickly and easily fill out a secure web form simply by clicking “Submit a Web Tip” with their tip on crimes or wanted fugitives.  By clicking “Web Tip Follow-up” on the webpage, Tipsters are able to log back in with a unique identifier and password to check for updates on case status, check for questions from investigators for additional information which could further assist them with the case, or information on how and where to pick up their REWARD MONEY if their information has led to an arrest. All of this can be done with the Tipster staying completely anonymous. It is very important that the Tipster does not lose their Identifying Number or Password!

The second tool is the Text-a-Tip program. This allows Tipsters to text their tip to Crime Stoppers.  All they have to do is type NTX and then their tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and the system will do the rest. The Coordinator of the Crime Stoppers Program will receive the information while the Tipster remains anonymous. Once Crime Stoppers receives the tip, text messages can be sent back and forth from Crime Stoppers to the Tipster to assist with getting further information. As a safety precaution, the Tipster can text STOP at any time and delete the message to avoid detection. If the tip is used to solve a crime, then a text message can be sent back to the Tipster with instructions on where and how to pick up their reward payment.

There are iPhone and Android apps available, free of charge from the Apple Store and Android Market, which allow for anonymous tips to be made, follow-up messages to be sent back and forth to Crime Stoppers and the ability to send photographs to Crime Stoppers, straight from a cell phone. If interested, please go to the Apple Store or Android Market to get your app FREE OF CHARGE! It not only works with our program but many other organizations around the USA and Canada who are signed up for the service.

The last item is the plan to transfer the current tip line (903-577-TIPS) to an outside Call Center which specializes in taking, handling and processing Crime Stoppers calls. This should hopefully be accomplished by the end of April 2012. Unlike most programs where the Crime Stoppers Tip Line is handled locally, this will give Tipsters the added confidence that their identities are safe and there is no way for the person taking the tip to recognize voices of callers.

This technology makes is easier, faster and safer for Tipsters to make a Crime Stoppers tip, follow-up on the tip and receive their reward. These additions make giving of a tip completely and totally anonymous, and brings Northeast Texas Area Crime Stoppers into the 21st Century.
